About us

The Environment Council works to put environment at the heart of people's choices, decisions and aspirations. Our goal is to help society deliver the best outcomes to the most challenging sustainability issues through ensuring we and others apply the right engagement strategies, at the right time and in the right place with the right people. With nearly 40 years' experience of raising awareness, training, and facilitation, and providing a forum for dialogue, we demonstrate what is possible, helping all kinds of organisations make the difficult and complex decisions needed for a sustainable future.

Our Beliefs

A healthy environment is essential to the sustainable future of the planet
The way decisions are made will be crucial to achieving a healthy environment
Better mutual understanding leads to better decisions
All people should have the right to influence the decisions affecting them
Change is possible

Our Value

To be trusted
To appreciate, and be seen to appreciate, all sides of an issue
To set agendas
To have honesty and pride in our beliefs and abilities; and respect for the beliefs and abilities of others
To work in an open, involving and engaging way, both cooperatively and in partnership
To pursue a quality of work that adds value for all our stakeholders

Our Approach

The key dimensions of our inclusive approach to environmental decision-making are:

Bringing together everyone affected by a decision
Sharing responsibility for the planning and the process with stakeholders
