Better Conversations, Better Decision-making

About This Course

This course draws together interpersonal skills, tried and tested techniques and strategies for change, to help you transform your meetings, and the conversations people have in them, to deliver better decisions.

Level

You will have some experience of participating in meetings and decision-making processes. Whether you're in charge of organising or chairing meetings, or a regular participant, you will learn skills and techniques to help make them better.

Aim

To enable you to dramatically change the quality of your meetings and interactions with organisations, groups and individuals in order to achieve better and more robust decision-making.

Objectives

By the end of the course you will be able to:

Share your experience of good and bad conversations and meetings, and draw out practical lessons from your experience 
Practice listening and questioning skills to help move the conversation forward 

Compile a checklist of the things that need to be considered before, during and after a meeting 

Practice a range of useful techniques for keeping meetings on track, efficient and effective 
Develop an action plan to help you put what you've learnt into practice on your return to work

Preparing for meetings 
Role of the meeting chair / facilitator / leader 
Ground-rules 

Good listening, good questioning 

The purpose of different parts of conversations in meetings 
Good practice for decision-making 
Providing information and notes from a meeting 

Course Style

We'll use a range of styles and approaches, including building on your experience, drawing on tried and tested models and approaches, small group discussions, and chances to practice different approaches and techniques.
