BNFL National Stakeholder Dialogue
The British Nuclear Fuel Ltd. (BNFL) National Stakeholder Dialogue was the longest, most wide ranging and thorough process of its kind undertaken in Europe in the nuclear sector conducted between 1998-2004. The Dialogue involved a wide range of organisations and individuals that were interested in or concerned about nuclear issues. Its aim was to: "inform BNFL's decision-making process about the improvement of their environmental performance in the context of their overall development"
The definitive material generated, agreed and published by this groundbreaking process, is set out below. This comprises reports from a number of Working Groups of the Dialogue, which looked at issues that included radioactive waste, issues surrounding plutonium nuclear fuel and nuclear security. Other outputs from the Dialogue included commissioned studies, which explored issues such as socio-economics via a Joint Fact Finding process that enabled data to be collected and analysed, a process overseen by a group of stakeholders leading to a conclusion upon which all stakeholders could agree. The resultant reports are accessible below; please click on the links as required to view.
Published Reports from the BNFL National Stakeholder Dialogue
The above reports resulted in a large number of recommendations, which were consolidated within the Recommendations Monitoring Group Final Report, April 2005 (also listed above). The Recommendations Monitoring Group (RMG) was established in October 2004 to support the adoption and implementation of Dialogue recommendations by relevant target organisations (BNFL, Nuclear Decommissioning Authority and others); and to review the take-up of the recommendations by these bodies. The RMG commended the report as an aid to future initiatives on stakeholder engagement around nuclear issues.
