Climate Change
The Environment Council believes it is important to shape a low carbon future through conversations that matter. Breaking out of the ‘consultation’ mind set and developing processes that really engage people, create greater understanding and engender personal and collective behavior change.
As people we like to talk things over. It helps to create a common understanding among a group of people, it helps refine ideas and create a sense of common cause. In fact `good` conversation can be a highly creative medium for resolving differences, releasing potential and stimulating change. If ever there was something we all need to talk about it’s climate change and how we must create and adapt to a carbon limited future.
Our aim is to bring people together from different sectors and provide space for them to have honest, open conversations over the issue of climate change. We believe that allowing these kinds of conversations to take place will help break down barriers that have previously stopped serious action on climate change.
Carbon Café is a process that enables these conversations to take place. Based on the `World Café’ concept developed by Juanita Brown and others, the Carbon Café allows people access to creativity and solutions that normal ways of working don’t always encourage. Two examples of the Carbon Café are the Trial Carbon Café (link coming soon) and Carbon Café held with employees of a large bank (link coming soon). Please click on their respective links to see the reports.
For the opportunity to participate in a Carbon Café please follow the link to The Environment Council’s winter season of discussion, training and action on Communicating Climate Change.
