Discovering solutions through serious play

About This Course

There has been a gradual awakening to the reality that organisations do not function in a command and control, cause and effect way, and that if they are run in this way, they will never fulfil their potential. Organisations are complex, intricate and unpredictable. They are inter-connected systems, which operate as living entities. Input A does not lead to output B. To have meaningful dialogue, and be able to operate in and understand the dynamics of an interconnected complex system, requires a different set of tools and techniques. SERIOUS PLAY™ is one such tool.

Level

This course is suitable for senior or middle managers wanting to experience new ways to solve problems, increase self-awareness, explore possibilities through dialogue, and build teams or create strategy. It is an innovative approach for those willing to work with something new.

Aim

To apply SERIOUS PLAY™ to your real business issues in order to facilitate insights, raise awareness, explore possibilities through dialogue and decide what must happen next to help drive you and your organisation forward.

Objectives

By the end of the course you will be able to:

Understand and describe how enjoyment and learning goals can influence performance goals
Apply a new tool and approach to problem solving
Use innovative solutions to solve real business issues

Use innovative tools to explore your own imagination

Explore working with emergence

Describe how complex inter-connected business landscapes require a different perspective and new ways of working

Indicative Content

SERIOUS PLAY™ is play with purpose. By using metaphor and imagination, issues can be understood, explored and played with to gain insights and discover solutions that are not available through conventional problem solving methodologies. The experiential learning uses 3-dimensional materials and so matches the way that the human brain is designed to work. Using more of the brain allows solutions to emerge from working in 3D that are impossible to see in 2D. The content of the course can also be applied to teams and to the development of strategy.

Course Style

There will be a balance of presentations and workshops, and you will be able to explore and discuss actual cases with the trainers.
