Energy and Nuclear

With climate change high on political and economic agenda, The Environment Council (TEC) has been tackling a range of energy issues at national and local levels. The government has proposed both renewable energy and nuclear new build as clean energy solutions, but TEC deliberately chooses not promote or express a view on which of these technologies is the best way forward.  Instead, we advocate putting stakeholder engagement at the heart of any new policy or project and we have over 6 years' experience running a number of national stakeholder engagement programmes for the nuclear and renewable energy sectors. The include looking at issues ranging from corporate environmental performance to community-led, green decision-making.

Two contrasting examples of these activities are the BNFL National Stakeholder Dialogue and Renewable Energy and Community Involvement.  Please click on their respective links for further information about these programmes and their reports.

Other engagement activities in the nuclear sector can involve a specific focus on legacy waste.  We are the convenors for the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) National Stakeholder Group.  Please click on the link to view further information about the group, its activities and its reports.

We were also convenors for the Magnox Decommissioning Dialogue, which considered issues surrounding and options for decommissioning Magnox power stations and produced a progress report in March 2005 containing recommendations to stakeholders and the NDA.  Please click on the link to view further information about the dialogue and its report.
