European Marine Energy Centre

The European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) is coordinating a process of stakeholder engagement to inform the development of 13 different guidelines/ standards for the progress and assessment of marine technologies.  In the past, some guidelines have been produced unilaterally with no collaborative input and have consequently been less complete, balanced and fit-for-purpose.  The stakeholder-led approach aims to ensure that the guidelines/ standards are as well informed, useful and credible as possible.  The Environment Council is conducting an independent evaluation of this engagement to help EMEC learn from the process and to quantify the impacts of the engagement approach. Furthermore, as part of our advocacy role and our proactive work on engagement in the marine sector, The Environment Council was invited to address two of the EMEC conferences for industry representatives to work on the development of the guidelines/ standards for marine energy technologies.  Government Relations Manager Winsome Grigor gave a presentation on engagement in the marine sector and how the collaborative, stakeholder-led approach is good practice and will deliver better outcomes.
