Engaging communities in projects that affect them and their environment
Trecatti Landfill Site, South Wales
- TEC has worked with the Environment Agency to resove longstanding community concerns about the management of the site. In 2004, TEC brought together key stakeholders together to resolve the conflicts between the local comunity and site operators. In 2009, TEC reviewed the communications with stakeholders and recommeded how this could be amended to improve dialogue with the local community.
Norwich Union - Dry Run Community Engagement on Flooding
- TEC designed and ran a pilot project on community engagement on flooding in Boroughbridge, North Yorkshire. This project called ‘Dry Run’ engaged over 100 stakeholders in planning a community-level response to a potential flood incident. Through innovative dialogue techniques, using maps and various live media as well as simulation exercises, the community groups investigated their own response to a major flooding incident, identifying gaps in their current knowledge and the steps required to increase community resilience. A flood planning toolkit was developed and shared through a dedicated website www.FloodPlanUK.org alongside case studies, key information
and a discussion forum.
Magnesian Limestone Natural Area Partnership, Durham County Council (2008)
- TEC developed a process to enable local organisations to participate in the creation and set up of a long-term landscape scale partnership working across the Magnesian Limestone Natural Area. The project used evaluation methods to both inform the emerging partnership and to reflect on the process used as learning
for other future potential partnerships.
