Regeneration and Development

This is a wide-ranging area of work for The Environment Council, as stakeholders from all three sides of sustainable development- economic, social and environmental- have a vested interest in its outcomes. Whether it's the redevelopment of the patch of land next door or the future management of the local park, TEC runs engagement processes that allow people to express their views in a supportive environment where they can really make a difference to the decision-making process and its conclusions.

A good example is currently in South London where we are jointly convening a dialogue process with Nigel Westaway on the future of the Crystal Palace Park. Local community groups and park users have not seen eye to eye on the issue for many years but we are starting to move towards consensus on the regeneration and development of some key areas of the park.

TEC also convened a process in South Wales involving an ex-smokeless fuel plant, Phurnacite.  This involved helping all stakeholders agree how the waste was going to be dealt with in order for regeneration of the site to progress.
